Project SAKSHAM
A 12-session Comprehensive Sexuality Education curriculum that goes beyond products to break taboos and build body literacy in young people.
Our Beginning
Project SAKSHAM was launched in August 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. What began as an effort to address menstrual waste soon evolved into a deeper, more holistic intervention.
Our initial focus was on supporting waste pickers in Pune, Maharashtra — communities that face both economic and environmental vulnerabilities. We introduced sustainable, reusable menstrual products such as cloth pads and menstrual cups as long-term alternatives to disposable sanitary pads. These alternatives are not only environmentally responsible but also significantly reduce the financial burden of menstruation. A cloth pad can last 3–5 years, while a menstrual cup can be used for up to 8–10 years — reducing menstrual costs by up to 80%.
As we engaged with communities, it became clear that access to products alone was not enough. Many women we interacted with had limited understanding of menstruation, compounded by deep-rooted taboos, myths, and stigma. This lack of awareness often led to unsafe practices and restricted choices. We recognised that education is key to empowerment, and that informed choice can only exist when individuals have access to accurate, safe, and stigma-free information.

Our Approach
At the heart of Project SAKSHAM is a structured 12-session curriculum rooted in Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE). Our curriculum is designed to go beyond one-time awareness sessions — creating sustained engagement, deeper understanding, and lasting behaviour change. Through age-appropriate, interactive modules, we create safe spaces for young people to learn, question, and reflect.
The curriculum covers: - Menstrual Health Management (MHM) - Human anatomy and reproductive health - Puberty and body literacy - Gender, consent, and relationships - Myths, taboos, and social norms
Each session is participatory and dialogue-driven, ensuring that students are not just passive listeners but active contributors in the learning process.

Why It Matters
We don't just distribute products — we create understanding. Through interactive, safe, and open sessions, we focus on Menstrual Health Education, Female Reproductive Awareness, Sustainable Period Choices, and breaking the silence around menstruation.

Our Reach
Our work is strengthened through collaborations with institutions that share our vision for equitable and inclusive education. We have partnered with organisations and schools such as Teach For India, Pune and City International School, Kothrud.
Through these partnerships, Project SAKSHAM has reached 200+ schools, engaging with thousands of young people across diverse communities.

Growing up shouldn't come with shame, silence, or fear. Project SAKSHAM is where knowledge meets dignity, and understanding your own body becomes power.
